Tuesday's one-shots
I presume most of you have heard about the awesome Lace Kittens before. If you haven't, they are two very talented writers, who have decided to join forces under this penname.
Today, I want to review one of their stories, namely 'Hunger'.
The year is 1923, a time where The Depression was still far ahead and Americans lived the big life. Or so most people think. In this story, we see a very different side of American society in the early twenties.
Bella is a young runaway, who tried to make it on her own. But no matter how big your plans are, how beautiful your dreams; life doesn't always work out the way you want it.
When Jasper comes across her, he sees an easy prey. A woman with no connection, no hope and a woman so filled with despair, she is willing to offer her most priceless gift in exchange for money.
As he takes her to a hotel with the intent of putting an end to his hunger, her nerves spike. Her behavior tips him off to the fact that she has never sold herself before. He decides to take it easy on her, but in doing so something shifts. When he notices the similarities between them, he can not go through with his plans.
Or can he? Will Bella becomes his companion or will she be just another meal in the end?
I'm not telling you guys, so you better go read it.
I really liked this one-shot and there are three reasons why.
First, the time in which it takes place is a time of glamour and it appeals to me.
Secondly, this fic is very honest. It shows two individuals in their darkest time and I can really appreciate that.
Thirdly, it has a mysterious vibe to it at first and that's what sucked me in, in the first place.
I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. To Lace Kittens I just wanted to say, keep up the good work and I hope to read more from you real soon.
